Project Manager, Energy Markets Policy Group,
Joel Yu began his career at Con Edison nearly a decade ago as a management associate in the company’s Growth Opportunities for Leadership Development (GOLD) program. Since then, he’s held positions of increasing responsibility, proving himself to be a valuable asset in multiple parts of the organization.
For the past two years, Joel has held the position of project manager in the Energy Markets and Policy Group where he develops and advocates for company energy policy positions on wholesale electric and gas pipeline matters. Along with members of the company’s law department, he has negotiated complex gas pipeline rate settlements, achieving more than $10 million in supply portfolio savings through 2022 for Con Edison and Orange and Rockland customers. Joel also supports the development of new management associates in the company’s GOLD Program and mentors local college students through the company’s scholarship program.
Prior to this, Joel served as a project specialist in Energy Markets and Policy Group. He researched complex issues involving energy markets and made recommendations for market rule changes. Joel’s advocacy allowed the company to avoid an allocation of costs associated with the Sewaren project in PJM, the mid-Atlantic regional transmission operator.
Joel’s tenure has not been limited to energy policy. For three years he was an operating supervisor in Electric Operations, where he supervised field crews performing construction, maintenance, operational and emergency work on underground electric distribution equipment throughout Brooklyn and Queens. As a management associate in the Gold program, Joel worked as chief construction inspector in Westchester Substation Construction. He managed project timelines and resolved issues for an $80 million substation upgrade project.
