Devi Shanmugham is a senior member of Bloomberg’s regulatory compliance team. She has extensive financial markets expertise, with a strong focus on the convergence of electronic trading and market regulation. She has represented global swaps and derivatives trading desks, index-driven business trading units and global market operators on a wide range of issues and manages the implementation of various global trading platforms. Currently, Ms. Shanmugham manages numerous matters concerning derivatives trading, cyber risk and market conduct and liaises with senior management on strategic initiatives, business planning and operational implementation.
Previously, she served as regulatory and transactional counsel for a global trading platform and a prominent global investment bank. In addition to her equities, futures, foreign exchange, commodities, derivatives, options, fixed income and exchange traded products experience, Ms. Shanmugham is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent Bar and has cultivated, protected and leveraged intellectual property assets respecting data privacy, cloud technology, artificial intelligence, machine learning and predictive analytics.
At Bloomberg, Ms. Shanmugham serves as a co-diversity champion, leading a wide range of diversity and inclusion initiatives. She is a member of WIND (Women In Derivatives) and the South Asian Bar Association of New York and frequently volunteers her time to do legal work advocating on behalf of women and immigrants. She also participates in other volunteer work through Bloomberg Philanthropies, and occasionally brings her two children along to encourage them to start giving back to their community.
