Brian Chung is a Director at Kohn Pedersen Fox with over 15 years of professional experience as an architectural designer. Since joining KPF in 2003, he has been involved in corporate, convention, residential, commercial mixed-use, master plan, supertall, and transportation projects throughout Asia and the United States.
As Design Director, Mr. Chung is leading the design of 400 meter tall China Resources Headquarters Tower in Shenzhen which is currently under construction, whose program calls for over 70 floors of office and conference facilities, Dongdaegu Mixed Use Transportation Hub in Daegu, Korea, totaling 1.8 million square feet which includes department store, bus terminal, theme park, cinema, restaurant, and links to high-speed rail, metro, and other public transits. Another design work in progress is a commercial complex for SOHO China in Shanghai which includes over 1 million square feet of office program.
Mr. Chung‘s work includes Jing An Kerry Centre in Shanghai. Totaling 1.3 million square feet, Jing An includes two office and hotel towers, hotel facilities, a convention center, and various dining and retail amenities. Mr. Chung also played an integral role in the design of Meixi Lake, an 82 million-square-foot master plan for West Changsha Pioneer Zone. Mr. Chung was the Senior Designer for the CBD area of the development, an area that includes over 64 million square feet of commercial, mixed-use residential, government center, and cultural islands.
Mr. Chung has also led the design of a number of KPF’s tall tower projects. These include 640-meter-tall DMC Landmark Mixed-use Tower competition in Seoul, the 8 million-square-foot Haeundae Resort Complex in Busan, which includes three skyscrapers; a 108-storey-tall 6 star hotel and residence tower, two 87-storey-tall residential towers, public observation deck, and dining functions as well as retail, water park, and fitness centers in the podium. Mr. Chung is currently participating in a 550m tall mixed-use tower competition in Nanjing, China.
Mr. Chung‘s notable tall tower experience also includes the Northeast Asia Trade Tower (NEATT) in KPF’s 1,500 acre Songdo International Business District, a master plan on which he also worked. Topped off at 308 meters in 2011, NEATT contains office, residential, hotel, and retail facilities, as well as public observation deck. In addition to his work on the Songdo Master Plan and NEATT, he was part of the design team responsible for its keystone ConvensiA Convention Center. Totaling 1.2 million square feet, ConvensiA features immense, column-free exhibition spaces that are unlike any in the world.
