Vice President and Distinguished Engineer, IBM
Anshu Kak is a Vice President & Distinguished Engineer (DE) at IBM. As an IBM executive she leads the technical architect team across the software business as well as leads efforts across IBMs SaaS business. She joined IBM in 1999 as an IT Architect and held roles of increasing responsibility – most recently as CTO for worldwide Cloud Computing technical sales and CTO for Middle-East and Africa.
Anshu is a recognized leader in IBM and software industry broadly for her significant contributions to the industry.
Over the past nine years, Anshu has helped transform the global technical sales architect organization at IBM to adapt to disruptive shifts in the industry from client server to Service Oriented Architectures to Cloud and Cognitive paradigm. She led strategy, technical skill development and client engagement model to maximize the effectiveness of this community to architect end-to-end solutions to address business challenges for IBM clients.
In addition to leading software architects worldwide, Anshu has directly led creation of major software architecture platforms that have become industry standards.
She co-leads the Cloud Computing Reference Architecture that has been accepted by various Industry standards organizations such as Cloud Standard Customer Council (CSCC). The IBM Cloud Architecture Center that provides prescriptive cloud solutions is used by thousands of clients worldwide. https://www.ibm.com/devops/method/category/architectures/. She had a significant contribution to the Service Oriented architecture also.
She started the Software Deployment effort for IBM Software, to tackle the problem of clients not effectively using the products they have purchased. She has authored a book called ” Value realization from Efficient Software Deployment” on the Software Deployment Method which is widely used by clients. This initiative has grown into a major area of focus at IBM. Anshu has authored numerous papers on multiple subjects such as Mobile in Cloud , CCRA, Big Data &Analytics in Cloud, Platform as a Service,Websphere Platform and how to develop Cognitive Solutions on Cloud.
She has presented at conferences like Grace Hopper, InterConnect, World of Watson, Open Group, Information Week and many more on variety of subjects such as Service Oriented Architecture, Cloud Computing, IT Profession.
Anshu is a tenacious advocate of technical vitality both inside and outside of IBM and has mentored numerous technical professionals. She is part of the IBM Architect Certification Board and IBM DE Board. She led the effort for developing the IBM Certified Cloud Solution Advisor which is among the top 10 Cloud certifications in the Industry. She was among the first two women DE of Indian origin, when she was recognized for her outstanding technical contributions and leadership. She has twice received the Women In Color Technology “All Star Award” from a US national level publication magazine. She has received numerous awards in IBM and GE as a recognition for her hard work and breakthrough thinking. She is a member of Open Group,ACM, Women in Technology consortium, she was an IBM Ambassador to New York University.
As a TOGAF Certified architect Anshu’s leadership is evident in her not only developing the vision for her team but in leading by example as a practitioner who has directly engaged with over hundred clients to produce optimal IT solutions.
In addition to her passion for IT, she is very actively involved in Child literacy in India supporting two main organizations – Psycho Education Society and Aasraa Trust. Anshu completed a dual degree as MS Computer Science with honors and in Russian language on scholarship. Prior to joining IBM she worked at Tata Consultancy Services, Bell Northern Research, Hughes Network Systems, General Electric.
